Lead carbon battery is a new kind of energy storage device composed of lead acid battery and super capacitor. Can it become alternative to Lead acid Technology or it will be advanced level of Lead Acid battery technology.

In general , We can say that Lead carbon batteries are similar to lead acid batteries in the cost and their components comparison and they are readily recyclable. But lead carbon batteries manage to overcome many of the disadvantages usually associated with lead acid batteries.


Firstly, they can be discharged more deeply and frequently without damaging the battery’s ability to hold a charge, lead carbon batteries can operate for 4,000+ cycles at 70 percentage DoD, meaning that their useful life is much longer. Whereas a conventional lead-acid battery may be deemed to have reached the end of its life after about 1,000 cycles to at 50 percent depth of discharge (DoD). Over the course of a battery’s lifetime, It can be assessed roughly 4 to 6 times greater energy yield over conventional wet lead acid battery – at a comparable price.

Sacred Sun, China has developed the FCP lead carbon deep cycle battery with super long life based on Furukawa technology. It operate 4200 cycles at 70 depth of discharge (DOD). Calculating one day one cycle, battery service life could up to 10 years. It reduce the cost per kW h of energy storage to 0.5RMB. In view of this, Sacred Sun’s FCP lead carbon batteries have successfully applied in many large-scale energy storage projects in domestic and overseas on accounts of its advanced energy storage technology.

As I know is that  it inhibits uneven distribution of sulphate on the negative plate surface during discharge process. It possesses both benefits of high energy of lead acid battery and high power of super capacitor, which enable it to be used in PSOC and instantaneous pulse discharging fields.

Though the report of lead carbon battery in academic cycles is excellent performance, long cycle life, fast charging ability, big capacity and lighter weight but many problems in technology and technique are pending in the research of lead carbon battery.
